Living in Rotterdam means knowing the Van Brienenoordbrug can turn a normal journey into a long wait. You can be sitting in traffic with no idea whether the bridge is about to open, when it will reopen, or whether something unexpected on the Nieuwe Maas is about to disrupt your route. From scheduled bridge openings to unexpected vessel movements and emergency situations, the information exists, but it is rarely connected to the journey you are actually making.
Doorvaart brings that information together. It combines pre booked bridge openings, live AIS vessel data and route information to understand when the Van Brienenoordbrug is likely to affect your journey. Instead of simply telling you that there is traffic, Doorvaart can help you understand why, when the disruption is likely to happen and what you can do about it.
The long term vision is an intelligent navigation companion that learns how you travel. By understanding the routes you take most often and the times you normally make those journeys, Doorvaart can anticipate potential disruptions and notify you before you leave. It could tell you when to leave, whether your usual route is still the best option or whether taking an alternative route would make your journey more efficient.
For the MVP, we are demonstrating this experience through a mobile app focused on the Van Brienenoordbrug. A selected journey can be analysed against scheduled bridge openings and live vessel traffic, allowing us to demonstrate the core intelligence, route recommendations and timely notifications that the full product could eventually provide automatically.
Over time, Doorvaart could evolve into a standalone intelligent navigation app, while also becoming a navigation intelligence layer that can integrate with platforms such as Waze, Apple Maps and other mobility services.
Doorvaart turns Rotterdam's maritime traffic into intelligent navigation, helping you spend less time waiting and more time moving.
